In Papers, Please - you’ve got a variety of tools to do your job. Your rulebook provides all the information you need to determine if someone’s documents are valid.


Inspection mode allows you to highlight discrepancies between the rulebook and documents, or between the individual and their documents. The more you practice, the better you get at noticing these issues.


You may also find yourself running fingerprint checks, body searches, or checking the individual’s weight and height against their documents. The final step for any un-detained individual is approval or denial.


Gameplay

There are a number of upgrades you can buy for your booth to help you do your job quicker. Keyboard shortcuts that allow you to toggle inspection mode or stamps, in an effort to speed up the process.


Rulebook upgrades give you quick tabs to retrieve vital information faster, in an effort to keep up the pace and earn more money. Of course, no one is stopping you from printing out a cheat sheet


There’s also a quick-inspect feature that can be unlocked and lets you simply double click on a discrepancy and match it with the issue.


Help

Part of your motivation is caring for your family. You work to pay your rent and heat the apartment. You can choose what to pay for each month, though there are consequences.


You'll also need to feed your family. If your family spends too much time cold or hungry, they get sick and they can die. Be sure to purchase medicine if someone in the family is sick


If you make enough money, you can upgrade your dwelling to cushier accommodations. Of course, these cost more to upkeep, so do so carefully. Arstotzka has no tolerance for delinquency.

Papers, Please

Set in a fictional Eastern Bloc country Arstotzka in the early 1980s, Papers, Please puts you in the boots of an immigration officer, working a border checkpoint. Along the way, you can spend your hard-earned money on booth upgrades to do your job quicker, or provide better accommodations for your family. Overall, it’s excellent - especially for an indie title. Papers, please is available on Steam, iOS, Playstation Vita, and even Linux.
